This pop’s most iconic singer, songwriter, actress, director, dancer, and
entrepreneur became a sensation on the male-dominated 80s music scene.
Her versatility as a star in both film and music proved her a global superstar.
This glamour queen born into a catholic family on August 16, 1958 in Bay
City, Michigan. Madonna was from a very religious family where her parents
Silvio "Tony" Ciccone and Madonna Fortin and their strict catholic faith played
a large role in her childhood that later became the subject of Madonna's most
controversial works . At the age of only five she lost her mother that affected
Madonna's adolescence significantly. But against all odds she balanced with her
personality and for perfectionism and was named the world's wealthiest female
musician by Forbesmagazine by January 2008.

In 1976 she was offered a full scholarship to their dance program in University of
Michigan. In 1977, Madonna was awarded a six-week scholarship to study with
the Alvin AileyAmerican Dance Theater in New York City. In 1978 she got a rare
opportunity to perform with choreographer Pearl Lang.For her dance career the
budding star dropped out of college and move to New York.

In 1981 Madonna hired manager Camille Barbone of Gotham Records to help her
get her singing career on track and showed Madonna how to navigate the male-
dominated world of the music business.She helped put together a studio band.
Friend Stephen Bray, a musician in her band, wrote her first hit, "Everybody".
In 1983 her full-length album, Madonna was a slow but steady success, and
included the hit singles "Borderline", "Lucky Star", and "Holiday."In 1985, her
album, Like a Virgin was hit No. 1 on the Billboard Chart and went platinum
within a month.In 1985 she performed the soundtrack's single, "Into the
Groove," for the film Desperately Seeking Susan and"Crazy for You", for the film
Vision Quest also became an instant No. 1 hit. Her first music tour, The Virgin

Tour brought a lot of name and fame. Then, she kept climbing the ladders of
success. Madonna's soundtrack album I'm Breathless: Music from and Inspired
by Dick Tracy resulted in two top-10 hits: "Vogue" and "Hanky Panky." Hit
albums: True Blue (1986), Who's that Girl? (1987), You Can Dance (1987), and Like
a Prayer (1989) are produced by her.Her album Erotica (1992), within one year
had reached double-platinum status. In 2005 album Confessions on a Dancefloo
and in April 2008, her album Hard Candy was released. In 2009, her third greatest
hits album, Celebration was released which became Madonna's eleventh No. 1
album in the U.K. Madonna released her latest studio album, MDNA, in March
2012.

In 1986 she co-starred with her husband Sean Penn in the film Shanghai Surprise.
Three more movies during the 80s: Who's That Girl? (1987), Bloodhounds of
Broadway (1989) and Dick Tracy (1990) also give her success. In 2011, Madonna
released her latest film project W.E. about the American divorcée Wallis
Simpson and her relationship with Britain's King Edward VIII.

She is believed to have had several relationships and became the hottest topic
of gossip for scandalous behavior."Like a Prayer" video, 1985 performance of her
hit single "Like a Virgin" on the MTV music awards, the film Truth or Dare (1991),
the publishing of Sex (1992), a soft-core pornographic coffee-table book made
her controversial .Though by 1991, she had achieved 21 Top 10 hits in the United
States and sold more than 70 million albums internationally. She wrote her first
children's book, The English Roses, in 2003. She also wrote and produced I Am
Because We Are, a documentary about the lives of Malawi's AIDS orphans.
