Suchitra sen- A legendary status who dominated the Bengali Flim Industry over25 yrs. She has been very
popular throughout her career as an actress. Suchitra Sen was born on 6th April 1981 in Pabna, now in
Bangladesh. She was the daughter of Karunamoy Dasgupta, the headmaster of a localschool in Pabna
and Indira Dasgupta. She was their fifth child. Her birth name was Roma Dasgupta before she adopted
the Suchitra name for the silver screen. Suchitra Sen was married to Dibanath Sen, son of a famous
Industrialist Adinath Sen. But in the mid of her rocking career, her husband died.

Shesh Kothaay (1952) made her debut but it was never released.
Sharey Chuattor(1953) film became a box-office hit and it was remembered for launching

Her patented Bengali melodramas and romances, especially with Uttam Kumar, made her
the most famous Bengali actress ever.

She refused Satyajit Ray's offer due to date problem; as a result Ray never made the film Devi Chawdhurani.
She also refused Raj Kapoor's offer for a film under the RK banner. She retired from the screen in 1978 after a
career of over 25 years to a life of quiet seclusion. She has avoided the public gaze after her retirement and has
devoted her time to the Ramakrishna Mission. Suchitra Sen was a contender for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
for the year 2005, provided she was ready to accept it in person. Her refusal to go to New Delhi and personally
receive the award from the President of India deprived her of that award.

She will always remain the most glamorous actor in Bengali Film Industry.
