Anne Hathaway
She is counted as one of the world famous character for her versatility and
heroine image. She was born on 12th November, 1982 in Brooklyn, New York to
her father, Gerald Thomas Hathaway, a lawyer, and her mother, Kathleen Ann is
an actress who inspired her to take initiate into the world of acting. At the age of
six her family moved to Millburn, New Jersey. Hathaway was from a very religious
Catholic family with "really strong values," played a large role in her childhood
and she wanted to be a nun but life took a 360° turn when she decided against it
at the age of 15, after learning her brother, Michael, was gay as she felt she could
not be part of a religion that condemned her brother's sexual orientation and
stated herself as a non-denominational Christian because she had not "found the
religion" for her.
She was romantically linked with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri
in 2004. After the split, in June of 2008, she married actor and jewelry designer
Adam Shulman on September 29, 2012.
She is influenced by Garland and Meryl Streep as her idol. Critics compared her
acting style to those of Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn.

Hathaway's first role in a motion picture was opposite Christopher Gorham in
Walt Disney's drama film The Other Side of Heaven (2001), inspired by John H.
Groberg's memoirs In the Eye of the Storm. Before production of the film, she
was cast alongside Julie Andrews in the lead role of Mia Thermopolis in another
Disney production, the comedy film The Princess Diaries, based on Meg Cabot's
2000 novel of the same name. The Princess Diaries became a major commercial
success, grossing US$165 million worldwide but The Other Side of Heaven,
directed by Mitch Davis, met with mostly negative reviews, but it performed well
for a religion-themed film.
In 2004 she got the role for the sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
That same year, she played the title character in Ella Enchanted, a twist on the
Cinderella story. The film received mostly positive reviews, with critic Roger
Ebert describing her as "beautiful" and "luminous." Disney began production
on The Princess Diaries 2 in early 2004, and it was released in August of that
year. The film opened to negative reviews, but made $95.1 million against a
$40 million budget. Her other remarkable performances are in comedy-drama
Nicholas Nickleby, rom-com fantasy film Ella Enchanted, voiced Red Puckett in
the animated comedy Hoodwinked! , based on the Little Red Riding Hood folktale,
Barbara Kopple's drama film Havoc, Ang Lee's drama Brokeback Mountain
alongside Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film won rave reviews for
its depiction of a homosexual relationship in the 1960s and received several
Academy Award nominations. In her views the content of the film was more
important than its award.
David Frankel's comedy The Devil Wears Prada, in the 2007 drama Becoming
Jane, the Garry Marshall-directed ensemble comedy Valentine's Day, the
romantic comedy Bride Wars in 2009, starring opposite Kate Hudson turned her
into a bonafied star.
Hathaway played the White Queen in Tim Burton's reimagining of the famous
children's tale Alice in Wonderland in 2010. The film received a lukewarm
reception from movie goers, earning more than $58 million at the box office.
Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, voiced the character Jewel in the
animated film Rio, from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, alongside Jesse
Eisenberg and starred in the romance One Day. Hathaway returned to lighter fare

After several stage roles, at the age of 16 she first appeared in the 1999 Fox
television series Get Real which only lasted one season. Her work on the series
earned her a Teen Choice Award nomination as best actress in a drama. She
hosted the NBC late-night sketch comedy Saturday Night Live in 2010.
In the same year The Simpsons garnered her an Emmy Award in 2010 for
outstanding voice-over performance, and Family Guy.
Hathaway is a trained stage actress and has stated that she prefers performing
on stage to film roles. She also appeared as Viola in the New York Shakespeare
Festival's summer 2009 production of Twelfth Night at the Delacorte Theater in
New York City's Central Park, opposite Audra McDonald as Olivia, Raul Esparza as
Duke Orsino, and Julie White as Maria.
