Charlize Theron
She became famous as a South African actress and fashion model. This natural
born entertainer was born in Benoni, a city in the greater Johannesburg-area,
South Africa on 7th August, 1975 to co-owners of a road construction company,
Charles and Gerda. As a child Theron was adventurous in nature who did her
part taking care of the family's animals and farm chores. In addition to English,
her proficiency in the Afrikaans language of her parents and over a dozen
local dialects she learned from employees of the farm and her father's road
construction company, help her in film career.
Her childhood was under stressed due to her parent’s domestic dispute that
ended in gunfire and the death of Theron's father. Mother Gerda had fired in self-
defense from her attacking husband, and was not charged with any wrongdoing.
The shaken teen was sent to a Johannesburg boarding school to join the rigorous
dance training program and her mother, who was now managing the duties of
the family construction business. Theron was more interested to try her luck with
ballet, which had been her biggest passion as a child. She had no interested in
modeling but a knee injury changed her destiny to work in the movie industry.
She began her modeling career in 1991 aged 16 when she won a local modeling
contest. After earning top prize, Theron was flown to Italy where she won the
International New Model Today competition, and began a modeling career in
earnest.

She got her first role as a young mother in a park in a B-film Children of the Corn
III in 1995, but it was a non-speaking role with three seconds of screen time. In
1996 her next speaking role as "Helga" in 2 Days in the Valley landed her the role
of "Tina" in That Thing You Do! in the same year.
In the late 1990s with box-office successes like The Devil's Advocate (1997),
Mighty Joe Young (1998), and The Cider House Rules (1999), gave her fame
internationally as an actress.

Actress at the 76th Academy Awards, as well as the SAG Award and the Golden
Globe Award.
Her performances as Britt Ekland in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers in 2004,
starring in 2005's North Country with Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand. Her
portrayal of a coal miner fighting sexual harassment in the work place earned her
nominations at the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
She is popular for the big-screen adaptation of the MTV cult cartoon Aeon Flux,
and made multiple guest appearances on the award-winning television comedy,
Arrested Development.
Theron returned to the superhero genre in 2008's Hancock with co-star Will
Smith. In 2009, she will appear in the film version of Cormac McCarthy's The
Road.
In 2011 her outstanding performance in Young Adult earned critical acclaim.
In 2011 with Young Adult directed by Jason Reitman, the film especially for
Theron's performance. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and several other
high profile awards. Theron played the Wicked Queen in the film Snow White
& the Huntsman, which began production in 2011 and was released in 2012. In
this year she has played as Meredith Vickers in Ridley Scott's science fiction film
Prometheus.
Other Interests
She has graced the covers of numerous publications around the world, including
Vanity Fair as the "White Hot Venus". The first South African Oscar winner
for Best Actress ranked in The Hollywood Reporter's 2006 list of highest-paid
actresses in Hollywood; earning US$10 million for both her subsequent films,
North Country and Æon Flux, she ranked seventh, behind Halle Berry, Cameron
Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Renée Zellweger, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.
She co-presented the draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Cape Town, South
Africa, alongside other celebrities of South African nationality or ancestry.
In 2008, Theron was honored with Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year
and in the same year she was asked to be a UN Messenger of Peace by the UN
Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
She modeled for the band Raymond Weil watches for their print media
advertising campaign.
She became the hottest topic of gossip for the nude photos inside the issue of
Playboy magazine which was published on the cover of the May 1999.
All the magazines and newspapers were filled with rumors of her several high-
profile relationships with actor Craig Bierko, Irish actor Stuart Townsend. After
nine years of live in relationship they were separated in January 2010. In March
2012, she adopted her son, Jackson, an African-American baby.
Besides acting she is a supporter of animal rights and active member of PETA for
its anti-fur campaign. To support same-sex marriage she attended a march in
Fresno, California, on 30 May 2009.
