Kate Beckinsale


The top Hollywood actress was born on 26th July 1973 in England and
most of her life she stayed there. Beckinsale was the daughter of Richard
Beckinsale, British comedian and actor and Judy Loe, who has appeared
in a number of British dramas and sitcoms and continues to work as an
actress, predominantly in British television productions. She completed
her education at Godolphin & Latymer School, then Oxford University,
where she studied French and Russian literature, as well as took up acting.
From her childhood she was famous for her creativity in writing skills and
twice won the British bookseller W.H. Smith Young Writers' competition
- once for three short stories and once for three poems. Her adolescence
was very much under stressed due to her father’s early death in heart
attack that affected her so deeply that she later developed anorexia and a
smoking habit which stopped for three years after becoming pregnant with
her daughter. She underwent Freudian psychoanalysis for four years. Her
widowed mother remarried with director Roy Battersby when Beckinsale
was nine and she was brought up alongside his four sons and daughter. She
has a close relationship with her step-father. As she grew up around filmy
background, it inspired her to be an actress from the very young age.

After an eight-year relationship with actor Michael Sheen from 1995 until
2003, she had a daughter, Lily, in 1999. After the filming of Underworld,
their relationship ended in early 2003.

She is also known for her electrifying stage performances. She toured in
England with the Thelma Holts Theatre Company production of Anton
Chekhov's "The Seagull". The Seagull in 1995, Sweetheart and Clocks and
Whistles in 1996.

• As a model

She modeled for the brand Diet Coke, Absolut Vodka, Lux shampoo in
a Japanese television advert. She has graced the covers of numerous
publications around the world, including "England's Number One Beauty"
by Hello! in 2002 and appeared at number 41 in People Magazine's 100
Most Beautiful People list in 2008.Many publications have included her in
their rankings of the world's sexiest women. Esquire named her the Sexiest
Woman Alive in 2009.She was at number 22 in Maxim's Hot 100 2009 list
and at number 41 on FHM's Sexiest Women of 2010 list.

She supports the charitable work by donating donated film memorabilia
to the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, MediCinema,
Habitat For Humanity and the Entertainment Industry Foundation. In 2008
being the host of 4th Annual Pink Party raised funds for the Women’s
Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and organised
a screening of All About Eve for FilmAid International. In 2012 Beckinsale
joined Nestlé's Share the Joy of Reading Programme to raise awareness
about the importance of children's literacy.
